I’m Lia Berquist, affiliated Bradley Method® childbirth educator and Bradley™ Doula.  I’ve been teaching families about physiological birth via classes in The Bradley Method ®  for over 14 years.  Through these classes, I’ve had the honor of supporting hundreds of families as they labor and birth.

The Bradley Method ®  first entered my life when I was just ten years old: I watched in awe as my mother, using The Bradley Method ® , gracefully gave birth to my baby sister in a triumphant VBAC at home. Years later, after taking Bradley™ classes myself, I gave birth to my first baby girl – in a hospital and without an epidural.Ten years after that, I gave birth to my second baby girl at home with the loving care of a Licensed Midwife, and The Bradley Method ^®

In-person classes are held in Long Beach, California – Centrally located and serving all of Southern California, birthing classes are held at Your Natural Birth on Naples Island in Long Beach (only a few minutes from the Studebaker exit off the 22 & 405) – FREE, easy parking

WHO:

These birth classes are for you AND your chosen Coach (often the other parent, but it can be any friend or family member)

 In childbirth courses in The Bradley Method ® you will learn:

• normality of physiological birth
• nourishment for yourself and your baby
• exercises to prepare for labor
• relaxation techniques for natural pain management
• positive communication with your medical team
• anatomy of mom and baby and exactly how the human body works during labor and birth
• advocacy for you and your baby

We do this through:

• Small class sizes which allows for candid discussion and the opportunity to connect and bond with other parents
• Games and interactive activities
• Enrichment through videos
• Teaching hands-on labor support skills
• Weekly relaxation techniques

Childbirth classes in The Bradley Method ®  are designed to teach families about the normality of birth. These classes remind us to trust in, and work with, our bodies.

• Bradley™ childbirth classes provide current research and up-to-date, evidence-based information
• Bradley™ childbirth classes teach how to communicate effectively and positively with your medical team
• Bradley™ childbirth classes teach partners how to coach you through this beautiful and athletic event.

Our bodies are designed to give birth.  We might just need to be reminded to trust nature.

Childbirth is hard work. It’s an athletic event for which we must train.

By training for childbirth, we can experience birth in a more natural, physiological way.

 A childbirth class should help you to feel comfortable giving birth where you choose.

Whether you choose to give birth in a hospital, a birth center, or at home, the birth of your child is exactly that: YOURS.
