I’m Sharon Mattes, having taught 550+ couples over the last 20+ years in the the joys of natural birthing in The Bradley Method. This approach focuses on working with our body’s natural processes for unmedicated birth, emphasizing relaxation, deep breathing, nutrition and partner coaching. This method recognizes value in creating a supportive, calm environment to apply skills in relaxation, labor comfort techniques, while knowing how to minimize possible interventions and achieve your desired outcome.
My husband Paul and I were uneducated with our 1st pregnancy, following other acquaintances suggestions for ‘traditional’ birth. This experience was unsatisfactory on several levels. While expecting our second child, we heard stories of much happier births from friends. We sought education in The Bradley Method, and this method armed us with needed knowledge and skills. We found the Bradley classes gave us the understanding and confidence to give birth naturally. With our 3rd pregnancy, we practiced relaxation at home, and in classes, reviewed the techniques in how to stay comfortable in labor. This made the difference we needed to again give birth naturally. With both of these births, I also appreciated a smoother transition into motherhood, achieved with my increased understanding of the postpartum period, and a newborn’s needs and behaviors.
