We are working hard on updating the Student Workbook. It’s a big project, and it needs to be done well. I’ll share some of what I’ve been working on for the Enews so you can hear about our progress:
We continue working hard to complete the update of the Student Workbook. This is a huge project that involves the workbook and much more.
Because they’re all tied together, we’re updating:
- · The Student Workbook
- · The Class Strings
- · A new category we call More to Explore
- · Teaching Resource Series
- · The Class Outlines
- · The PowerPoint/Class Slides
- · As we go, we’re also updating the courses so those who are in training are getting exposed to the most current information.
Here’s how this project is organized:
Class Topics are the main subjects covered throughout the course and will also be found in the Student Workbook. It will be very similar to the current (2020) version but with some updated information and a new look. The method isn’t changing. The natural process is still the same, but times have changed, and it’s important that we update information on certain procedures, revise some terminology, and cite newer research that supports what we teach.
Class Strings are the important ideas and skills that weave through every class. They help keep familiar topics fresh, practical, and engaging while building confidence and preparation over time. We recently released a 140-page update to the Class Strings. They can now be found in the Student Center. We are still working on a set of class slides to accompany each of these Strings.
More to Explore resources are short, encouraging articles and supplemental materials designed to help our students go deeper into the subjects that interest them most. Whether they’re looking for practical ideas, additional explanations, or thoughtful, evidence-informed perspectives rooted in years of teaching experience, these resources will support their learning one step at a time. We have nearly 50 of these almost ready to be released.
For Teachers Only – We are also creating a series of Teaching Resources that will provide background information, current research, and perspectives you can rely on as you learn and prepare your classes.
PowerPoints and Class Slides are being developed to complement all that we’re updating. We look forward to providing teachers with slides that they can use while teaching the Standard 12-Week Series or arrange as they please to match an Open Enrollment Series or a Condensed Series.
How These Changes Will Affect Your Teaching
The new workbook will feel very familiar. The content on most pages will be similar. Many will be the same. It will still be laid out in the same order with one small change – we’re adding a section at the very end of the workbook called The Coach’s Toolkit. This is where coaches will be able to turn to quickly look up information during practice and in labor.
How Soon Will it Be Released?
I wish we knew. This week we completed five Teaching Resources, six More to Explore articles, and applied our new approval program to the first two sections of the Student Workbook making sure that everything is within policy and doesn’t step outside of our role as educators. We are preparing a newsletter that will give you the chance to see some of our newest materials. As for the Student Workbook, our goal is to release it sometime this year. We will be working through the weekend (again), hoping we can complete the second of fifteen sections by Monday.
We welcome your feedback. Most of the ideas for the Teaching Resources and More to Explore articles have come directly from teacher questions and suggestions.
